An English Pool cue is basically a snooker cue with a few subtle differences. Both are usually made from ash or maple, but:

• Tip size: English Pool cues often have slightly smaller tips (8.5mm–9.5mm), while snooker cues are usually 9.0mm–9.8mm
• Taper: English Pool cues tend to have a thinner taper for faster cue ball reaction
• Weight: They’re often slightly lighter, though not always

Many players use the same cue for both games — especially with a tip around 9mm or more. Unless you’re playing at a high level, the difference comes down to feel.

USA Pool cues are built for 8-ball and 9-ball and differ significantly from snooker or English Pool cues.

• Tip size: 12–13mm for USA Pool vs 9–9.5mm for snooker
• Weight: 19–20oz for pool cues vs 17–18.5oz for snooker
• Taper: Shorter pro taper for power
• Grip: Thicker butt and often includes a wrap
• Joints: Usually quick-release metal joints
